"Lift-a-dot" studs

There is one lift-a-dot stud on each chrome door trim piece, just aft of the vent window. The original studs are farily small, around 5/16 inch in length, and made of chrome plated brass, I believe. The Moss reproductins are 1/8 inch longer, and appear more round than conical. Anyone have a source for the original types? The repros look huge sticking out from the chrome trim piece.

I would try British Car Specialists. They had the wood screw threaded lift-a-dot studs I needed for a bj7 rear seat back for the boot which were not available from Moss.

Maybe these longer ones are just what I need for the stud aft of the door on the BJ8 where one ring and one fastener of the tonneau both must fit over the currently too-small stud. Ya think?

Several years ago I bought a lot of the "lift the dot" and other trim fasteners from Woolies trim. I thought the club might be interested and since I was ordering anyway and paying the shipping much to my surprise not too many responded, so, I have plenty of brand new ones, even with the original leather washers used. If you would like some photos of what I have I'll try and post them here later on.

That might work but these studs are not compatible with thr original fastener IF you are not fussy :laugh: you can addasmall black plastic washer uner the existing stud to lengthen its reach. OH my goodness who said That. __Fwiw Keoke

Keoke: Can't believe you said that. My problem is, and I promise to be careful here, that one of the lift-the-dot studs is missing. The one I have has lost a good bit of its plating. So it's best to replace both. I talked with John at BCS yesterday, and ordered what he beleives will be the right parts. We'll see. The Moss replacements work from a mechanical viewpoint, but just don't look right.

Johnny, those are what I am looking for. I did order a couple from BCS the other day, just in case they might have the right ones. They should arrive next week. If they aren't the right ones, I would be ever so grateful if I could buy from you a couple of the studs in the top photo. And I certainly won't hold you to the $1.30 suggested retail price. Jim

Thanks Jim, just let me know. Those "Lift the dot" are used to secure the tonneau cover they come in different lengths, some people like the extra length because their cover is of a heavier material. Same with the turnbuckle's for earlier cars, some are single thickness others are double thickness. The Tenax fastners also come in various lengths, some threaded with nuts etc. and others as wood screws. The leather washers are original and do protect the paint.

Woolies is a great company and stock many or all of the trim pieces we use on Austin Healey's.
