My hand's been swollen up for about 3-1/2 months now.Last Tuesday they took
a blood sample from my right palm.Wed. afternoon I got a call from the surgeon's office
to get to the hospital that day.
Turns out that my hand had major infection,& could have lost my middle finger (&/or hand),
if not caught in time.Been in the hospital for the last eight days.
Now I have a Picc line on my left arm,& need injections every four hours.Won't be able to
drive the MG's for a while,& can't do hardly anything with my right hand. It's tough when you can't
do simple things,or ask for help to do them.
I have to remind myself that it could be worse,& that others are much worse off than I am.
I also feel sorry for my Wife, who has been giving me injections every six hours, with 4-5 different
medications.I wouldn't want to deal with me,if I were her.
I'll also be off work for about six months,& will be a while (hopefully a short while) until
I can drive my Dakota (the only automatic we have).

Wow - really awful for you and your family. Thank heaven it's been diagnosed ... but why didn't doctors find the problem sooner than three months?

Take care of yourself.
Tom M.

Sorry to hear the news. Feel better.

Get on the mend as fast as possible cus the snow will be coming soon!
I wish you the best of luck that all works out.

I don't know why they didn't catch it earlier,but I'm just
thankful that it was caught.
Trying not to feel sorry for myself, but be thankful that
things fell into place.Just frustrated that I can't take the sports cars
out for a drive. This is the best driving time of year coming up.
Thanks for the kind words & thoughts.I debated if I should
post this or not,for quite a while.

sorry to hear and yes be well and get well soon

This site is about support regardless of vehicles or folks.
too bad you are not mobile, as I am coming you way in a few weeks time.

wow. sorry to hear that. ruff. my mother did that once when i was a teenager and landed herself in the hospital on IV antibiotics for a week with her right hand in the air ("elevated"). luckily for her, she could turn pages with her left hand. she had us bring her two big bags of library books....

Wow that's pretty scary stuff. Sorry to hear it but glad they finally found it in time.

Sorry to hear that you're going through this but happy to know they caught it in time.

On a side note, your left handed typing is very good.

Dang Doug! Glad the caught it in time. Hope things heal quickly and completely.

Doug, first of all I hope for a speedy recovery now. We had a brother in law in OK that had something similar earlier this year. He was in and out of the hospital a couple of times before they finally got the infection id’ed correctly. He is recovering now but it was touch and go for awhile.

Again,Thanks!

David,

I'm sorry - I was hoping/planning to get up that way,as the last week in September
is my vacation time.Might not even make it to the SCCA Runoffs,or the British car meet in
Waynesboro on October 1st.Those PICC line injections every 6 hours really mess that up.

Glad it was caught! Serious stuff, mend well.

What they all said. Take care of yourself, and kudos to Mrs. Doug!

Wow, Doug. An amazing story, I pray you get better quickly with no lasting effects.
Ditto on the be nice to Mrs. Doug, better to have a loved one take care of you than anybody else.

I agree - she's been married to the same idiot for over 44 years,
but still stays with him.I don't know if I could take care of her the same
way she does to me,& still juggle all of the day-to-day tasks.
The medication seems to wipe me out,but I still want to at least
try & take care of myself. It was hard not to drive myself down to the
Cars & Coffee about a mile from here, but thought that it wouldn't be
wise to do so.
And I thought that I had NO LIFE before all this!

Please forgive me if I'm being too self- centered here -
I just want to get out & drive. It also really helps to read/hear
about the normal things others are doing here.

Doug - sounds like you have a few opportunities ahead for car buddies to take you to car shows, etc!

Doug, I can completely commiserate with you. Two years ago when I was flat on my back for three months straight all I could think about was getting out. Just remember that this is only temporary and that sooner or later you'll be back at it.

If you can by chance get yourself to the Runoffs, you can leave driving to me once there. I’ll shuttle you around all weekend in the Moke.
