Make sure to use aluminum nails, as you will get galvanic corrosion if you mix steel nails and alloy plates!

Thanks, I was actually planning on using brass screws to avoid the corrosion; I hadn't thought of getting aluminum nails.

Use brass!

34 minutes ?
what heck!
your a ninja right some freaky karate moves

34 minutes is a record?! I've never spent that long inside a tag office.

The last time I was there, I arrived about 11 am, showed my papers and took a number. Went out for lunch at 12:45, came back at 1:30 and they still hadn't called my number. CT shuttered a lot of DMV offices a few years ago including our local office.

Geez. Fletcher, pop. 1145, still has our tag office, you can usually be in and out in about ten minutes.

Here in Texas everything related to titles and tags has to go through the county tax office (no separate DMV). If you just show up and take a number here in Austin, be prepared to wait 60-120 minutes. The only sane way to deal with it is to make an appointment, then you can probably get what you need to do finished in less than 30 minutes.

The worst to deal with is the toll road company (yes its a for profit corp. that manages all the toll roads here) - they don't accept appointments and only have 4 cashier windows....2 of which are usually closed. There you better bring a book, or maybe do an engine rebuild out in the parking lot while you wait forever.

So I lived in Texas for four years.
my first visit was interesting to say the least
I had my number found a seat and waited
as I was waiting a guy goes up to the window to get tags
the lady waiting on him gathers up his papers and says she will be rite back
the guy stays at the window waiting ...
from the doors that lead out to the commons area comes to huge sheriff’s Deputy’s
the walk up on either side of the guy look at him and cuff him and escort him back from where they came
I’m guessing it’s Collin county’s version of a drive in arrest.

Sometimes I start to believe people when they say other places in this wide world are better than OK for various reasons, then I hear stories or visit these places and realize that the land I belong to is grand and the rest aren't.
