License plate light - inline fuse, BJ8

I understand from various posts that it would be beneficial to add an inline fuse to the license plate light on my BJ8. What amperage fuse is recommended? Would a 10 amp be reasonable?

Hi Bob,

From what I understand, and I know I will be corrected if wrong, a 5 amp fuse was installed on BJ8 Phase 2 models. The issue is that water entering the light has caused a short that can burn pack wiring insulation and devastate the rear harness. Although BJ8 Phase 2s have the fuse, all previous Healey model owners should install the inline fuse as their license plate lights are mounted low and more vulnerable to water penetrations.

Thanks for the information.
I have a June '67 production BJ8, mostly original, and cannot find the inline fuse for the license plate. Any idea's on where to look before I splice into the wire? I was planning to splice into the wire as it comes out of the harness right before the licences plate light.

No fuse on PH2 cars but a lot of guys add them 5 amp should be fine , if theres a dead short it will blow . Also if you get rear ended and the wiring is shorted your wiring harness wont self destruct

Make it a fast blow fuse well protected from physical harm in the boot
 
Norm Nock's Tech Tips book, p. 147, advocates positioning the fuse off the S1 terminal on the light switch, protecting the wiring to the panel lights as well as the front and rear running lights and license plate light.
