Many of you who have been around a while knew Dave Russell, one of the forum's most helpful and prolific members who passed away recently after a long fight with Cancer. Recently we had a fund raiser in his name and sent flowers to the family. Also, thanks to the generosity of many forum members, we were able to send a $600 donation to the Humphrey's Diabetes Center, one of the family's preferred charities. Anyway, yesterday I received a very nice letter from Dave's wife, Marlene and since it really addresses all of us here, I thought I should share it with you all:
Dear “Basil,”
While Dave was still alive he entered the British Car Forum website and had me read the messages sent to him. At this time he was unable to read and write consistently. We were deeply moved by the kindness and encouragement offered to him.
He certainly respected and appreciated you, Basil. He believed your values are reflected in the high caliber of web site you offer to the many British car enthusiasts. He certainly enjoyed sharing his knowledge to those wanting help and I know Dave would be greatly honored by the award to be offered in his name. In fact I’m sure he’d be overwhelmed.
We have a 7 yr old grandson, Jacob, diagnosed with type I diabetes. He has used the service offered at the Humphries Diabetes Center. We are appreciative to you and the British Car Forum members for their donation to this organization.
Last, but not least, the bouquet of flowers was very welcome and uplifting in our time of stress. We welcomed their beauty.
You must know how thankful Dave’s family is to you and the British Car Forum family for your generous thoughts and deeds offered in Dave’s memory. You have blessed us greatly.
May God Bless you all,
Marlene,
Carrie and Lisa and their families
The award she speaks of is something that a few of us have been working on in the background. I'll post details later, but basically we are going to initiate an annual "Dave Russell" award to a member who exemplifies Dave's spirit of sharing knowledge and treating people respectfully in the process. As I say, details will be posted later.
