Less than pinhole radiator leak....

It does take a dedication which will draw time from some other part of your life. It just depends on where you set your priorities.

Ok, so $400 buck later I get my rad back, wrestle it back into place....take it for a ride....dang thing is leaking againg from a hole he made in the tank, he welded up the hole but not good enough. I really don't want to pull the rad again has it was frustrating enough getting it back in. Luckily the new hole is easily accessable so I filled it with some JB Weld, hopefully it will hold up this time.....

BTW: This is a perfect example of my luck, if anything can go wrong it almost definatly will.

I would at least get my money back because he obviously did not test it.

I'm inclined to agree with Jack: Drive it over to the burke and POINT to the leaky bit with the statement: "You fixed the pinhole and stuffed me fer $400 to make THIS leak?!?! Gimme my money back an' I'll take it to competent people."

...but I'm decidedly not PC... and confrontational in the face of incompetence.

I was thinking about driving it down there....The best part is he tells me he tested it to 20 pounds! Then why is it leaking at 7 pounds?....I definatly won't be going back to that shop.

My guy warranties his work - & if the rads or gas tanks leak after I'ave installed them (never have), he says to bring the car to him & his guys will pull, repair, install!

Personally I'd rather not have anyone else removing/installing the rad in any of my MG's....I like to know it's done 100% and without adding and 'ouchies' along the way. Of course if you know the guy personally and have enough confidence in him, then it would be different.

That's my guy's point: he's not going to put a radiator out that's bad becase it would cost him time & money to pull it out of a car, repair it again, & reinstall it.

If they warranteed it, they owe you a refund!

Yeah, I know...I am gunna be calling him Monday....I've got a million things going right now and since the rad is in place and working I tend to forget about it.

Seems fishy that it was tested to 20# and is leaking. Dunno for sure, but I think a good shop does it in water to look for bubbles.

I just had a rad redone with a new core; it came back looking perfect. The solder joints were even filed smooth where the tanks join the core, no lumps or anything. The guy who did it must be an artist in his spare time. I almost wanted to polish the brass tanks, but figured it would be ostentatious(sp?). I painted it.

Yep, polished brass tanks just don't look right for some reason.

Scott - that's how my guy does it - puts 'em in a tank with tinted water & pressurizes...if there's any bubbles, he finds the leak.

Not sure how my guy did it....Or if he even did do it....No polished brass tanks here, I was going to do my TC like that but the solider was a different color from the brass...So it's painted gloss black with the I.D plate polished and clearcoated(brass).
