Leon Redbone... gone.

Sure enjoyed him.

Oh darn, I hadn't heard him in ages (way back when I watched Saturday Night Live). I was just reading about him on Wikipedia and saw this: "Redbone survived the crash of a small plane in Clarksburg West Virginia, on February 12, 1979." That's where I was born. Sad to hear he's gone.

I think he had been in ill health for a few years... and recent photos of him show him to have aged quite a bit.
I think I also first saw him on SNL and I've followed him ever since. I still have a couple of his early LPs.
Quite the character. Saw him live about 20 years ago.

He was definitely a distinct and unique performer.

That's a shame, he was such a pleasure to listen to.

I figure he was born wearing sunglasses and a hat. :p
Melancholy Baby:

We saw him in Miami years ago double billed with Tom Waits. I always wondered whether they argued over who was entitled to bottom billing.

What a line-up! Waits is also a favorite of mine.
