Lens hood fix

The only issue I've found with the 17~55mm lens is the hood. An "HB-31" that belongs with it. The hood would easily come unsecured from the lens, the locking pawl seemed to just slip off the lens flange. On seeing B&H advertising a "half-price" sale for the hood at $30(!) I decided to try a fix before dropping more cash on this lens. Got out the tools, disassembled the hood's locking pawl (Yes, there's a spring that wants to jump into never-never land!) and carefully filed the catch to reshape the rounded end flat. No more than a half millimeter removed. Reassembled and working as designed now. πŸ‘

Tools (Swiss files and a set of screwdrivers) and a before & after shot of the catch:

And some proper tools. πŸ˜‰
