Length of Steel Wheel Tire hold town

When someone has a chance would you please measure the length of the rod for the steel wheel tire hold down in their trunk. I bought one for a MGB by mistake and it is way too long.

Thank you,

Mark

And you don't own bolt cutters? Time for a new tool.

In my MGB and my Sprite I use a piece of short all thread bent into a J shape to hook into the body. Then a wing nut and washer to tighten down. Both spare wheels are inverted. If you're not concerned about originality, this is a good way to gain additional storage. I use the spare to hold a tool bag and rags. The only drawback is that the valve stem is facing down, so you have to remove the spare to check air pressure.

I plan to cut it just want to know the exact length of the shaft so it seems original.

Mark,
If you didn't receive an answer yet, just found one in the boot of a 62. It measures "approx" 1-3/8" from just under the head of the bolt to the end. The tip of the bolt is turned down to 9/32" diameter approx 3/16" back.

Yes it is, if you would share your email in a PM it will be done. It would be better as I seem to have issues with the size of the pictures for posting.
