Legroom Update [WOW !] .......

Hi All -

As an update and suggestion to those who provided suggestions to improving legroom -- thank you.

Many mentioned that adding a floor pan picking up a few inches. A great idea, but I just redid my carpeting so I did not relish the idea of replacing it just 2 years (or so ) since re-doing. However, I thought it was a great idea.

I found a great deal on a firewall mounted accelerator pedal on ebay for $65 delivered:

Just got it in last night. All I can say is WOW! What previously took up 7" of real estate now takes 2" (gaining 5" of legroom on this car is incredible).

What I did .....

I had to pull back the carpeting to get to the bare firewall. Using a drill and air saw - cut the dual wall of the firewall for cable access into the engine bay. secured the cable on the outside of the eng bay and ran cable to the Weber. Came with nice mounting & connecting hardware. Fighting some issues with the return spring (so the cable will lower the carb output and inturn lower the gas / RPM's of the engine.

I did have to cut down the pedal - basically the firewall is concave shaped and to get full motion of the Weber (& RPM's) - I had to cut the pedal in half. I'm happy to have it not "look pretty" and pick up an added 1" - 2" of legroom.

Frankly, I was ready to put a for sale sign on her being I just couldn't drive for longer distances comfortably. That is now off the table.

80% chance of going to MG2012 now !

Thanks all & good luck-

George

George, try flipping your dimmer switch and bracket upside down and you will find some more room to rest your left foot. That is leave the top screw attached and rotate the whole assembly. Also I removed the padding from the side panels for that little bit extra!

Kurt.
