I'm not liking the look of these:

While replacing the left axle shaft, bearing, etc. I noticed these cracks. Looks like some drilling to stop the cracks and welding is in order.
 
Common fatigue area. Did you find any signs on the other side? Prep, drill, weld, finish and enjoy. Good luck with the repair. A Hot Rod (muffler shop) did mine before I had any welding skills. It's held up nicely after all these years. Gonzo
 
No sign on the right side; that was the first place I looked.

I have Waxoil inside the frame. I wonder if it will ignite?
 
I'll watch for the mushroom cloud. I welded a couple of small cracks in that area a few years ago. Filled the gas tank (less vapor phase that way) and welded away. If you are really concerned about the waxoil, just purge the frame a bit with some argon or whatever inert gas you weld with.
 
Much sucking of teeth!

Get the grinder out and channel out the cracks or a series of small holes and then weld 'em up. I doubt if the waxoil would cause much of a problem but just in case try a sample weld on a piece of steel with waxoil on it and see what happens.
