leaky brake master cyl

Is it a common problem for the dual line nonservo master cyls to leak out of rear most seal? The one that was in the car when I got it leaked out of there and right down the pedals, so I got one that was rebuilt and it seems to leak out that back seal as well. I pulled them both apart and everything looks to be in great shape with no wear marks on scoring on the bore. The one that came in the car also has a rebuild stamp on it saying its been overbored. Any insights into this would be great. Need to get all these little loose ends tied up so the car can get on the road.

I had the same problem on my 79 Midget. But when I did a cylinder rebuild, the problem was solved. I would think the cyl that came with the vehicle should be replaced, but if the replacement is leaking, you should return it, rebuild it, or look for yet another master cylinder. As far as I know, brake fluid running down the pedal is not something you have to get used to in a LBC.

Good luck!

check at a NAPA store they have the cheapest rebuilts around and they work good

I called the one napa we have around here and they want 100 for a master cyl but tell me they can only get one for power brakes for my 70. Anybody have a napa part number that I could tell them to look up?
