leaking fuel pump

I have a question on my leaking fuel pump on my 75 TR6. I'm not sure where it is leaking from because it was getting dark outside. Looking at the Bentley, could the only 2 places it be leaking at is cover/upper body or the lower body/upper body joints, and maybe just needs to be tighten at these places. The car seems to run fine so can that eliminate the diaphram being bad. And if it was bad would it cause a leak? One more question..... Is it possible for fuel to leak into the block via fuel pump internally? Thanks for any help.

Bad fuel pump diaphragm won't necessarily make the engine run bad. Until the hole gets large enough to pass all the fuel, it will just deliver fuel to both the carbs and the leak.

This is very similar to a problem I had with my TR4 fuel pump. See a post from me here there are lots of replies. The bottom line is that the car ran well but the diaphragm (from a new kit) was not able to handle the ethanol in the gas and as such the diaphragm had holes in it. The result was two to three liters of gas in the oil sump after 6 miles of driving. I don't imagine the oil did much lubricating diluted that much. Be careful and don't assume the diaphragm is fine.

My diaphragm is on its way back to the major vendor as they are very keen on seeing this (I had tried two kits from them and both failed the same way within one hour)

Well....I went out and pulled the pump loose from the block and used the lever to build pressure back up to see where it was leaking from. I was just hoping it wasn't leaking into the block because I did a oil change last weekend and used "smokeless oil" to get me by till the rebuild. And yes....no smoke. Now the fuel pump started leaking. With it unmounted and primed, the fuel is leaking out the holes in the bottom of the lower housing and not thru the arm to the block. I can quickly pull the pump and take the diaphram out and the center recess is where the diaphram shaft goes down thru is dry and the outer bowl where the holes are is wet. So....I'm guessing I'm safe. Oil level is still the same on the dip. Can the bottom seal where the shaft drops into the lever be replaced and supplied with the kit? As mine looks shot.

I have not found a kit with the lower seal. But I think someone wrote that TRF kit now has one. I have not heard confirmation of this. If someone knows for sure let us know.

i had called TRF and talk to them about their diaphrams. Theirs are red in color, they have not had black ones for quite some time. Red ones have not been a problem with premature leakage due to today fuels. Their kits do come with 2 oil seals for the diaphram shaft.

The ones that I bought that failed where red. However they did not come from TRF nor did they include the shaft seal.
