Leaking Carbs

I am posting this from my dad's login. I recently rebuilt a set of stock carbs for a 74' TR6 to fix a leak. I used a factory rebuild kit. When I went to tune the carbs I found that the leak was still there. The leak is coming from the overflow on the front carb. I took the carb off and checked the float height and gasket placement throughout the carb. I check the intake for both carbs and gas is going to both. The car didn't start, but spuddered for a short while making me think that it was getting spark. Everything looked good, but the carb still leaked. I am not a carb guy, just a week-end piddler. Any ideas would be helpful.
 
Check your fuel pump.. if for some reason it's giving you too much pressure, you'll have these issues.

You might need to invest in a fuel pressure gauge. I believe that the acceptable fuel pressure range is 1.5-3 psi.
 
Check the needle and seat to make sure that nothing is inside there causing the gas to continue to flow into the bowl when it should be shut off.
 
Ask Dale, He's had the same problem. Turn out to be a new pump with to much pressure.
 
I wonder if his Dad got one of those bad pumps like Dale and many others did, prior to rebuilding the carbs?
 
The pump has not been changed since he has had the car. He blew through the line with the float up and with it down. Seemed like the float and needle valve were working ok. It seems like reversing the carberator positions might tell him something? I think he is going to get a pressure gauge when he gets home & check the pressure.

Any other suggestions welcome.

This may have dislodged some junk and just a tiny piece of dirt or sand will causing flooding if it lodges between the needle valve and it's seat.

It's a pain, but if the pressure is between 1.5-3.5psi, I'd take another look.
