leak in overdrive? gearbox?

OK, I'm totally ignorant in all of this. I removed the tunnel cover, because fluid had been leaking out from under the cover. I've attached pictures. Where my finger is pointing, it is a very loose connection, it shifts back and forth about a half inch - maybe a little less. There is a seal in this system, could it be that - I can see no sign of the leak, just a puddle of fluid. Help!? :eeek:

Hi, That is the speedometer angle drive it should not have that kind of free play. I do not see the knurled cap that attaches it to the speedometer spindle assembly, hats the thing you have your finger on. The fitting I am referring to is very similar to that knurled cap that attaches the speedometer cable to that fitting. OK I see it in the last photo so the retaining set screw by your thumb is probably misadjusted---Keoke

Thanks, Keoke - would this cause the leak? Just release it, reset and tighten?

Probably but there is suppose to be a swaling washer on top of the main body be sure its there,

Just release it, reset and tighten? Ywah do this first and see if the leak does not stop.---Keoke

if still leaking, there is also a special copper washer that goes under the knurled cap - it is often missing.

Thanks - I can't get to the car until tomorrow night, so we'll see what we've got.

....
Check the fluid levels in both the transmission and clutch reservoir. Your angle drive should not be loose but it may not be the major source of your excess oil on the floor.

Hi, Ed - The clutch fluid is fine, the transmission is low.
