leaf spring questions

I have taken the leaf springs apart to check/clean/repaint and have found a thin leather-like strip between each leaf and the next. What is this? Is it there for squeak prevention? What can I use to replace it?

I also broke one of the clips that hold the ends of the springs tight. I don't see them in Moss, VB or the BHive. Where can I get a set of these as well?

Hi Lonnie,
Spring interleaf liners are used to reduce spring friction & squeaks. I don't know what the original material was. A common modern replacement would be Poly-Glide or equivalent, which should be available at local spring shops. One variety, Poly-Slide, can be seen here:

Don't know about the clips.

The local spring shop should also be able to replace your borken clip...if not, and you get desperate, I just replaced my rear springs and will give you the one you need...just let me know which one and I will see if I can get it off and to you. It will probably have some Blaze paint overspay on it though /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
