Leaf Peeping

Like most of you, I'd rather be in my car than under my car, and today I did just that. I drove up to the Blue Ridge Parkway where, because it was a weekday and because the leaf colors peaked last weekend, I had the parkway pretty much to myself.

It doesn't get much better than this.

Tom,

Probably too late for you to get down here now from Wisconsin, but next October would be a perfect time.

Springtime is a good time also -- azaleas and rhododendrum in bloom -- but Fall is, indeed, the most popular time because of the colors of the leaves.

Ed I had a great drive a couple weeks ago in the mountains and high desert areas of AZ going up to Flagstaff for Triumphest. Took the long way up about 240 miles. For me it can't compare with the drive you can do anytime. When I lived in OH fall was the best time of year for a drive in the TR6.

This past weekend was our annual 1000 mile sojourn - the Arizona Roadrunner.

Fall color isn't everywhere in Arizona but we did manage to find some amid the Aspen north of Flag, in the Verde Valley and on this stretch of AZ 260 near Payson:

What you can't see are the 3 TRs, 2 Healeys, 3 XKEs. 2 MGs and 1 Mini behind me (including 3 forum members).

October is a grand time to be on the road in almost any part of the Northern Hemisphere.

JP:
Are you speaking of Nov. 3-4? If so, I would like to try to tag along. If it is this weekend, I can't make it because I'm serving as "crew" for my wife's 50-mile endurance (horse) ride up at Fort Valley.

George: Great video. Long straight roads... hard to find them here in Virginia!

I had a nice ride through the WV mountains last week, not too far from you in Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties. Leaves were peaking, curvy roads calling, but alas, both my TRs are broken right now so I had to do it in a minivan.

Dan,

Small world! Last weekend my wife and I prepared to drive the Parkway to see the leaves. Just as we were leaving the house, I noticed that the control head on my steering column was doing odd things (see an earlier thread). So we put the TR back in the garage and took our trip in our car.... Not the same experience as the TR!

With the stator tube issue fixed, thanks to guys on this forum, my trip yesterday was to compensate for the missed trip last weekend.

Had to be a straight road as the driver was doing the 'filming'. Even I am not crazy enough to be taking pictures in the twisty bits.

You'd have to develop that talent if you lived here! Ha, ha.

Ed it is very beautiful in that area of the country. Last week I flew to Asheville NC and drove home a 99 Eurovan Camper. Nice area, crossed the parkway, stayed in Smokies, Land Between the Lakes in TN and on home. Trying to fit everything in the garage now and get the TR running as I have been traveling most of the summer. Trees were quite colorful all the way home. Leaves are pretty much gone here now.

Hey, Richard -

You drove right by and didn't even wave! :jester:

We have had a nice color change in middle Tennessee. Leaves are still on some trees, but my yard's covered!

Sorry I missed you Mickey, Wow I did go right by. Stayed at Paris Landing. I was on a mission with my surprise Ebay purchase and generally don't travel wired. I really like TN and will be back. Next time.

Coffee's always on!
