Lead work on 74 B

Hi all

While working around the rear of the car (between the tail lights, I discovered what looks like lead work at the seams on the rear panel(the one with the gas tank filler hole). Was this original or was this a patch? There also appears to be lead at the base of the tail lights on the inside edge.

MG used lead solder as filler in a number of places. I've encountered it on my GT, where the roof panel meets the A and C pillars.

I also recall someone's parts catalog had a sidebar about the joint between the rear body panel and the quarter panel (the one you mentioned). I remember they said that on chrome-bumpered cars, they fill this seam with lead. They skipped this step on later cars.

Thanks
