Click here for a video from BBC about a car rally to commemorate the 55th anniversary of the start of the Cuban revolution. I've read articles about American cars down there and how well preserved they are; but had no idea about the British marques in Cuba.
 
I want to be the first person off the first plane that lands there when its legal to go...& I want to have lots of cash so I can buy some of those old cars!
 
My thoughts exactly...let everyone else go buy cigars!

Isn't it legal for our Canadian brothers to go there now?

Agreed...it would be fun to go and actually see the cars "in situ".

A couple of years ago, there was an MGA owner from Cuba who was posting on a different MG BBS, corresponding primarly with Barney Gaylord...trying to get parts and a shop manual. Everything had to be shipped through Canada.
 
They have probably had Russian engines and transmissions installed in them by now.
Can't get the video stream to work, and I was was an ISD department head. But then again I had staff to do it.
 
That Jag still had the original twin cam in it :wink: !!! Cuba is like the Jurassic Park of vintage cars!! :laugh:
 
And I bet they all know exactly what they have too!
 
What the heck, I'll bet they do!!! Can you imgine what they have had to go through just to keep them running and on the road!!!
 
I was there for over two years and in the process left an original 1938 Chevy and a 1930 Chevy coupe hot rod down there. Their probably still there and in running condition. Maybe

Those old cars can not be removed from Cuba. Castro recognizied them as important tourist attractions and declared them to be National Treasures. Cubans can only buy/sell them between each other.

I'd like to be the first person to open an import auto parts store in Cuba as soon as the USA ends the embargo.
 
Well as long as Fidel is alive "maybe" you cannot take vintage cars out ,
but that will change once things open up....

But I have heard thru the years that expensive collectable cars have been taken out and sold thru his buddy Noriaga in Panama

But thats not "official" exports....
 
Well...there's been a few of those classics converted to boats for (illegal) immigration into the States.

Our Coast Guard is kind enough to sink them upon their discovery.
