LBC References?

What are good sources for an introduction to LBC's? I just getting into this and would love to learn the vocabulary (ex: What's the difference between a drop head, drop top and a convertible?), the acronyms (I just did figure out LBC) and conversions (ex: What's the difference between bhp and hp?).

Thanks for your patience.

Hello there nieghbor!
I say nieghbor as you are within a state of me and for here that's close.
Was going to list a bunch of references and still could , but you've got the best place to get introduced that I know of right here on BCF.
The drop head coupe thing (sometimes just DHC) is just another way of saying convertible as opposed to a fixed head coupe (FHC) or hardtop. Not as confusing really as the bonnet, hood, boot terminology. It's all part of the fun though so just go with the flow.

Hi.. just a thought.. You might be able to find a british to american dictionary on the internet with a search.. just try a few different parameters and see what comes up.. Haven't tried it myself, but it might bring up something..

If something is really stumping you, someone here will know the answer.

Hi Huck, welcome to the forum. In answer to one of your questions, Horsepower (or "Indicated Horsepower") is the power output of the engine, about 15% of that is absorbed by frictional and pumping losses within the engine; the remaining useful power available at the flywheel is termed the Brake Horsepower (BHP), since it can be measured by some form of frictional, hydraulic or electric "brake" driven from the crankshaft.

American manufacturers usually quote the Indicated Horsepower as the output of their engines, whereas British manufacturers traditionally quoted bhp.

Wow, thanks folks. This helps me to get in touch with my British side. My mother moved to the US in the 60's and has always striven to drop her Queen's English for American.

What was it Mark Twain said, something about two people's seperated by a common language.
