I need a new fuse box for my '77 MGB. Prices vary from $24.95 for a " BRAND NEW LUCAS FOUR FUSE - FUSE BOX PART NUMBER 37420" from what appears to be a reputable dealer on E-bay to a high of $37.95 from Moss Motors...with intermediate prices from Victoria British and Little British Car Company.
They appear to be the same fuse box in all cases, but I know that there imitations that may not be as good(?) as the original Lucas equipment.
Any ideas or suggestions?

I have never found a replacement electrical part for a British car that was anywhere near the quality of an original Lucas. I've learned my lessons the hard way and now I only buy genuine factory replacement parts unless there is no other choice.

Lucas electrics are not unreliable, the replacement parts they are attached to are!

Steve, You are correct. But where do you find genuine Lucas factory parts? Lucas has not made a replacement part that I know of for eon years. They make their money by licencing shops to use the Lucas name all over the world to make replacement parts, and I bet they are going to say "CHINA" very soon. You gotta secret?---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I have a secret stash of some parts that I've collected over the years. Others I find as needed. There are actually a lot of factory parts still out there, you just need to hunt them out. Smaller suppliers and old parts houses still have plenty although many of those small retailers are going out of business due in part to the big boys taking all the business, and partly because the older guys' young'uns aren't taking over the family business as dad gets near retirement.

One part I'm particularily proud of is a brand new early MGB horn contact slip ring, still in the original box. I've had a few people express their amazement because they haven't seen one in 20 years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

OK I buy that. I have a raft of NOS parts too.Just picked up a pair of original RB340 regulators off E-bay in the same red/black boxes. Full gasket sets in the old circus circus boxes etc.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Well RR it seems that the consensus of our limited opinion suggests that you should just buy the most economical one you can find as it is suspected that they all come out of the same bin.---Fwiw--Keoke

Awhile back, after installing my third Taiwanese turn signal/headlight dip switch in less than a year on my '72 Midget, I finally sourced an original Lucas switch for a "B" that worked, with the addition of a wiring harness pigtail. No further problems.
Lucas for reliability, Who'd have thunk it!
