LBC market dynamics: where 's it going??

Russ: <span style="font-style: italic">"When "Aircraft" mfg`s. move their manufacturing to other parts of the world; "Recession"? If not yet, "SOON"!</span>

Bravo. Just about everything you said in your post is so true, and so discouraging.

Cessna Aircraft announced last summer that it would be building a brand new "light sport aircraft", the "SkyCatcher", to compete in the Sport Pilot market. Sport Pilot is marketed as "making flying affordable again". (Note: it isn't).

Well, in November, after taking orders for close to 1000 new planes, Cessna decided to announce that the SkyCatcher will be fully manufactured in China under Cessna "supervision", inspected in China, dis-assembled, shipped to the USA, then re-assembled, and sold here for $115K each.

The only remaining big name in USA general aviation is building its new plane completely overseas. Needless to say, when the China linkage was public, 100s of orders were cancelled.

Russ, your examples tell us that LBC market dynamics may be a very small part of the general economy of the next few years.

I still think we will pull out of this well before a depression. Credit needs to be pulled in to keep idiots from messing this up, but I am not going into a "bunker" yet.

As to the future value of our LBC's, to me that is not the point. The same with my slot car collection. The next generation will not have nearly as many people interested in these things, but I have not gotten them for financial reasons, but to enjoy them now. My heirs can recycle whatever they want, but should not expect to make a killing on any of these things as the "buyers" will be too senile to remember where they put the check book.

I think there is a big paradigm shift in economies coming, with china and then indian subcontinent populations (4 billion combined?)aspiring to the standard of first world economies, makes for challenging times ahead!

tony, the only reason she found them is cuz she was doing my corp. taxes and found the reciepts it was not voluntary, she has never given me any "guff" about what i spend my/our money on as long as im happy, she is amazing, and my questions about making any money on these cars was meant to be ratoricle in nature, and a bit of warning to anyone who's planning on trying to do so, it was never my intent to make money on my car only enjoy it, i dont know whom i should pay for all the enjoyment i derive from my hobby, anyway its priceless. :savewave:
