Lazarus Rising from Dead

There is finally some hope my very dead TR250/6
may yet see life on the street and move out of
it's museum crypt in my garage.

Original cause of death was destroyed carbs and no wire
harness.I did some research on carb restoration and found
Jeff Palya in Ohio as highly recommended.

So with Mr. Bentley's help, I yanked the twin carbs and
sent them to Jeff. They arrived back to me 2 weeks ago.
I then ordered new bolts, nuts, gaskets, etc. and with
the kind technical advice of the many good folks here,
last night I managed to install the new carbs.

Photo attached.

Now everyone here knows that old Tinster knows just about
nothing about about auto repairs. But I try to share my
lame attempts when something I try seems to succeed.

Here are some photos of how a know-nothing rookie changed
out twin carbs and the intake manifold. I apologize in
advance to the site experts for my clumbsy work.(But it
ain't half-assed by any stretch!! just clumbsy)

thanks as always to everyone,

dale

Dale, your photo documentation is a goldmine to the rest of us contemplating what you have accomplished.

Thanks,

Great job Dale! I'll document my tri-card changeover that I plan to buy from Jeff in the fall as well. I've received many emails regarding the postings on my website for the distributor, winsdshield and paint work and I think that these are very helpful to those who are looking to do new work on their cars.

Hey Tinster,
How much did those carbs cost you to rebuild? Expireing minds want to know!
/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I've had carbs done by Jeff also-great work, literally bolt on and go. Last time I had mine done it was $350 or $375.
His # is 330-273-4017

Lee:

Mine was a package from jeff at $500. He refurbished
the twin carbs, hardware and supplied all gaskets, etc.
PLUS he gave me a new, correct intake manifold and
assembled everything.

Once I had received the new mounting studs and brass
nuts, Jeff's work was literally bolt-on. Really tight
working spaces to get the short clamps and brass nuts
between the exhaust pipes but bolt-on none-the-less.

Again, for me, fantastic satisfaction and great return on
investment. Plus Jeff kept me e-mail informed thru the
process.

Dale

He does WONDERFUL work. I've rebuilt a few sets for guys in our club and I was just wondering how much of a deal these bums are getting. I however don't polish anything but, I do install and tune them. I don't e-mail customer during the process either - mainly because I can't get them out of my shop long enough. I think I'm going to start charging a spectators fee... $5.00 or a pint O' Guiness....Maybe both

looks good Dale...Can't wait for you to get it on the road, you deserve it!

Aldwyn !!!

I am totally stunned at what a small, tiny world it
has become. You live in Columbia, MD?? I was one of
the original architects for Mr Rouse when we first
built Columbia from 100+ small farms. We retired
to PR from Columbia.

What village do you live in?? We still keep in touch.
I'll bet we have friends in common. How about Lyle
Linden?? Until very recently he had an old Brit car.
TR4 I think. Kevin Gillespie? Antique B&O RR fanatic.
Liz Bobo the politico? Dear friend. Remember JK's pub??
Owen Thompson the Aussie? My best man.

awesome!!

dale

Well I'll be!

You guys did a great job with Columbia! I started out living in "Lakeside" on Lake Elkhorn in Owen Brown, then 5 years ago moved to Steven's Forest.

Have you been keeping up with the changes the new mgt company has been trying to impliment (and in some areas, getting away with)? Like paving over Symphony Woods and putting in a strip mall (like Columbia needs more?), and tearing down Merriwether Post and building a smaller indoor "arts center"? Rouse must be spinning in his grave.

Anyway, enough of that bit of depression!

I am afraid I dont know any of the names you mention. I have only lived in Columbia for about 8 or 9 years. The only LBC guy I know of here (and still havnt met!) is Sherman Tuffnel who lives about 8 doors down from me.

But you are right... small world! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Where did you live here in Columbia, and how long have you been in PR?

Aldwyn: We lived Village of Hickory Ridge,
Quarterstaff Road.

I was part of the Rouse team that designed and constructed
the Owen Brown dam and walking path and gazebos in the woods. OB was one of my projects. It was great fun in the
day!! 4-wheelin' arounf thousands of acres deciding where
to put roads, schools, ponds, 7-11s, etc.

We left 11 years ago and our friends tell us of the
devastation going on. I wonder what ever happened to the
Master Plan? The Ho. Co. zoning board folks taking a few
developer $$ under the table??

later gator,

d

You should be proud! Lake Elkhorn, and it's path, etc, is the most beautiful area of Columbia! Thank you for your part in it! (and I bet it was fun doing all of the planning and such!)

As far as what happened to the master plan? I think it died with Rouse, and has long been traded for fatter wallets in the county. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I still like Columbia, though... and am not ready to abandon it!

We designed the dam spillway for kids and adults to
sit in the water and enjoy. I'll bet the lawyers
brought an end to that.

It was a blast doing the dam project. We were not
sure it would hold once it was full!!

d

Yes, years ago they put signs up saying "No tresspassing" on the dam area. Myself, and others, typically ignore it anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Sometimes there is good fishing in the spill pond!

Didnt know if it would hold? Well, it's been patched and patched again on many occasions. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
