I hauled the Cortina ('67 GT) down to Lodi,
to have a friend look at it after I'd reached my
saturation point.I've spent over $6500 on it,had
the engine & transmission rebuilt,& put about 20-
miles on it,& still have problems.
On the way down the tow vehicle developed an
exhaust leak on the right side (averaged 10mpg),
no A/C,PS,PB,& drum brakes.
I got an email last night saying that 2 cyl-
inders have low compression,& a part came loose in
the transmission.Also,I don't really have any more
money to spend on it,but it's worth more with every-
thing working right.
The shop that rebuilt the transmission was a
national chain one,but they shut down here,& the
owner passed away (it's been over 2 years since the-
rebuild).
I might have to sell the Ford ('68 F250,Camper-
Special,almost all original,perfect interior,just to
pay some bills.
I was thinking about selling the Cortina,but
it will need to be fixed first.Maybe I can trade it
for something.
What to do....what to do?

jeesh... Hope it all works out in the end Doug. I hate being in spots like that..
 
You said it was a friend who was looking at it - can you park it for a few months till the finances improve?
 
I can park it,but I think that it's time to
move on.Too many projects around here.Besides,I need
more room.
Also,it seems that almost every time I get around
to fixing something,it doesn't go right,& I end up doing
it over.

There is a time, Doug, where cutting your losses is the acceptable answer. Fewer cars, fewer projects might equal more enjoyment (and less cost) out of the ones you keep. There does come a point where these cars own us more then we own them.

So my vote is to fix the minimum you need to fix on the Cortina and sell it (and your truck too if you need to). Then you can enjoy what you have with a bit less stress.

Less stress is always good.

which totally sucks, and there comes a point where you just don't love it anymore. Still, it might be worth waiting till you can at least get it running properly so there is a chance of recouping your investment. I also seem to remember you tried to sell it before with no luck.

anyway, sorry.

No need to be sorry.I'm just trying to salvage what I can.
I just can't figure out why some people sell their cars at infl-
ated prices (& don't need the money),& I can't sell my cars at a
reasonable price (& being very honest).
I'm trying to balance this out.I've always believed that if
you're honest & hard working,that you'll get ahead.
Whatever happened to this way of thinking?

tragically seems to have gone the way of the dodo. I know it is still there, but, we live in a world where greed is good and everyone is looking for a shortcut.
 
So what does he do. The same thing any of you LBC lunk heads would do.
Go out and look at a 79 Spit. :laugh:
 
Just looking - not buying (this time).
Of course,that's the line I usually use when
I get another car - "I just want to go look at it".
