Not finished but you get the idea. It balanaces on top the mast. Unsure if I'm gonna run it masted or not as I'll have to come up with a base. The strands are some kinda crazy drill shavings I found at the recycle place. I think they may be stainless. They are TOUGH! I stretched em out and then annealed the pennant part.

Very nice, Billy!

For a "base", I can almost see a sea shell - better yet, piece of driftwood...

Callin' it: "Full Sail"?!?

Very neat, Billy!

Very nice Billy. I see a big splash of water (bow wave) and sails of course. I think Mickey got it, driftwood base.

Thanks guys. Thinkin' about "Runaway". I've been leaning towards the splash but not quite sure how to pull it off. (clay being pushed out by an invisible hull?) If I can find the right shaped piece (boat) then I'll do it. We still have some big pieces here somewhere. I'm trying to stay away from drifitwood as Kelly uses it a lot in her work. It's funny how our work is starting to overlap for this show where you can't tell who did what. She's using (and stealing) some of my metal pieces. Just like "Brangelina", we've morphed into a single being, "Killly" or more appropriately, "Belly". :highly_amused:

Whatever I use for a base needs to be really contemporary. It'll still hang from the wall so I was thinking about doing that and let the mast hang.

Disreguard the ingots I have propping up the mast. That is a test mast too, I haven't commited to cutting the other one yet.

That's the right shape of wood -- just ship-like enough to get the impression across. Very nice.

Thanks guys, occationally I get lucky. Stupid piece of wood has a kickstand like thing on the other side. I'd remove it but I'm afraid I'll ruin it.

This sure is a lot of fun! I like this better than fabbing stuff for the race cars. I have no idea what I'm going to do next. This thing started out as some kinda crazy Star Trek harp thing. I was threading one of the "strings" back out when it filled with wind and took off. :highly_amused:

Love it! I was gonna suggest some kind of molten recycled glass for a "hull" but I think you found the perfect piece of wood.

Ya know, I thought about that too. You can slump a wine bottle where the top caves in but the sides stay somewhat bottle shaped. The cool thing about slumping glass is I can make any type of mold I want out of clay and then slump it in the kiln. I'll be looking into glass slumping later on. The thing I like best about glass is color and light possibilities. For right now I have an upcoming class with this artist: https://carolnelsonfineart.com/ .

Had it finished but now it's shipwrecked. Stopping for today, I'll straighten it out tomorrow. Got to walk away for now.

Is it just me or does it remind anyone else of the sandships from the 1980 mini series The Martians Chronicles?

I like it. A LOT!

Mighta just ruined it. It had a weird spot that looked like oil from my hand. Well, I wiped it down with acetone....which spread said spot all down the side. So....since I'm in this deep I gotta do something so I hit it with teak oil. While the teak oil did blend everything in, it made it a lot darker. it will be on a black "sea" so now it won't stand out too good. I've got one more trick up my sleeve if it proves to be too dark. If ya can't raise the bridge, lower the water.

Here it is in almost finished condition sailing across a seas of Elvis quality crushed velvet. Hard to see in the pic but the velvet works quite well. When I first told her I was going to use black crushed velvet she screamed, NOOOOOOO, NOT BLACK VELVET !!!!!!" but she really likes it now.
