i updated my site with some new pics of some of the things i powdercoated. i also added some other tranny pics as well. i ordered many new tranny parts due in 2 weeks. in the photo gallery are two shots of the clutch master cylinder which i painted using rustoleum's hammered finish. i really like this paint although PCing is always preferred. by the way, PCing the master clutch almost ruined it since the heat melted the solder joints. not a recommended practice. anyway, i know the site is a little messy. i am working on cleaning it up.

Nice, nice powder coating. That has really worked well for you. In the future we will all send our parts.

lookin good....i love powder coat /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
any idea why my tranny gets stuck in neutral?
ball bearings, maybe?............z

you know, i may have an answer for you zimmy once i get one of these trannies back together. the three trannies i have all had some form of lock up. i think damage to the laygear and general wear tend to cause most of the problems. that's why, after replacing most of the major players, i hope not to have that problem. i'll follow up as i put one back together. i can tell you that the wear on these gears and shafts was the same for all 3 so replacing thoses parts should get me one good tranny.

After you do the first you and expert, might as well do the other two for spairs. LOL

that would be the thing to do jack, but i may wait until later since the cost to rebuild is pricey. besides, i have some more PCing to do. i am also getting ready to send the tub up state for it's soda blast and primer.

Ahhh, keep an eye out for cheep parts. Happens.

ive already rebuilt my tranny....
never really drove it before then....
if i rev the car and jiggle the shifter
if will usually free up and go in...
should be something simple.....z

may not be a problem then ... i've had trannies lock up to where you couldn't get it out of gear. i remember taking it to some guy in whitehall pa (i think his name was guth) and he would magically unlock it for me. he told me once that the only way to unlock the tranny without removing it was to cut a hole in the tunnel, probably to get at the access coverplate.

Hey Fred...... why not paint the garage walls and ceiling! LOL It makes working on the car a whole lot easier. Honest.

Nice pictures. Your progress is encouraging.

I agree Peter I painted my shed walls last spring with some left over white and boy did it brighten it up I just wish I had done it 15 years ago when I built it lol

Yup, you'll be amazed at how much more light you have if you paint the walls white. Makes it easier to clean the dust out too.

BTW, I like the web site. Keep up the good work.

there are too many projects my wife wants done before i could safely go and paint the garage. besides, it keeps my hopes of building a new separate garage alive.

never make your hobbies seem more important than the wife's projects! i got close once! Once!

Looks good, keep working on the car and paint later.

Zimmy stuck in nuetral? have you taken it apart?

Patrick

its not stuck right now....happens fairly frequent though....
only takes a few seconds to wiggle it loose usually....
ill b pulling my motor again pretty soon anyhow..
i want to fix it then...z

Looking good man, love the pics. I rebuilt my ribcase transmission when I first got my midget in 1998. The lay(cluster) gear was busted with 1st gear gone off of it. I replaced the laygear and inspected the others and they looked fairly good(when you go to buying gears it gets $$$$ quick). Reassembled and drove it for a summer and then tore it apart for a restoration, still not done. Ended up getting a Datsun 5 speed and buying an adapter plate a makinng the rest myself. Have yet to try it out. I need to take some pics.

Zimmy, it sounds like the "detent" balls/bearings are sticking. When was the last time you drained, flushed and relubed the tranny? What are you using for lube in the tranny? A lighter lubricant might smooth it out! The shift forks may be slightly loose or out of alignment also (they can be checked through the side cover)! You can also free-up a stuck tranny by draining it, and reaching up inside through the drain hole with a screwdriver and shifting the fork nearest the drain-hole slightly, plug, fill and drive away! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
