Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR household

Guess I'll start with the best news first (and that which makes this a Triumph related subject) - I finally picked up the TR6 engine I bought for Chance - the boys and I are going to start tearing it down this weekend, but it looks to be in good shape.

My middle son totaled out his pickup a while back (hydroplaned during a severe thunderstorm), and I just co-signed a loan to buy him a '99 Dodge Neon R/T - sweet little car that he's babying big time!

I traded my '96 S-10 in to get my wife a '01 PT Cruiser - she's really loving it and I must admit it's a great little car.

And the cost of gas has forced me to trade in the Pacifica - loved it, but the gas milage and my daily commute were killing me financially. I swapped it for an '01 Mazda Miata

(donning flame suit)

Pacifica owners are a vicious bunch. Once they get past the baby seats and sippy cups they are a dangerous cult.

Flame suit? Are you worried that the Pacifica owners on this list will be upset with you? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Yeah, THAT'S the group I was worried about! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I must admit, the Miata has been a blast to drive - gives me a benchmark to exceed with Chance when he's done /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif

Hey! I resemble that remark! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Seriously, the Pacifica was a sporty and nimble ride - especially considering it's size! Chrysler was trying to market it as a Sports Touring Vehicle initially, but that didn't seem to go over well so they started calling it an SUV.

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

What did you think about the S10? I am looking to get one as a beater...probably 99-01 but I'll get any year if it has low mileage.

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

After my wife test-drove a Pacifica when looking to replace her Grand Caravan (with simulated wood grain trim!), that was all she could talk about for days. Well, after driving the Woody, a school bus would feel nimble.

Anyway, she decided that she really wanted a van, so we hooked her up with a Mazda MPV. I am really surprised at how nice it is to drive that thing. It moves, it handles, and it holds a whole lot of stuff. There really seems to be something to this 'zoom zoom'.

Loved it - bought it brand new in '96 and put 185,000 miles on it before I traded it off. Until this year it gave me zero problems (well, the A/C went out last year) I guess you could say I flat wore it out because lots of little things were starting to crop up and it seemed more expedient to just trade for something newer. Even though it had a 4.3L V6, it still managed to get 25MPG the whole time I owned it.

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

You won't get the attention you get in your Triumph while driving your little Miata, but you'll have a good time charging around in it!

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

Thanks Jayhawk - I see you're a fellow Triumph and Miata owner /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I must admit I love the responsiveness of the engine (not to mention the 6-speed tranny!) One of the first things I thought was that it would make a great powertrain swap for a Spitfire or GT6 if I had one.

As far as attention goes, since I'm commuting to work in it I try to attract as little attention as I can - if you know what I mean ... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

Pretty interesting coincidence - I too am both a Pacifica and TR4 owner - the Pacifica is still my commute car, my wife drives the Caravan. But I like the idea of swapping for that Miata, so don't be sorry at all!

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

Glad to hear you liked the S10....I tried the S10 forum, and most of the patrons are young speed freaks, or lowriders....I just want a nice little truck that I don't have to worry about...Definatly going to go with a 4.3 though...I heard the 2.2 travels at MG speeds.....It's been hard to find a dcent one around here....Whenever they do turn up they're sold within hours!

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

I was on my home from a Saturday cruise today in my 8 when I saw an accident. A PT Cruiser rear ended a S10 (Pizza delivery boy) at about 25 MPH. It broke the S10 into a "V". The rear bumper was now about 5 feet high. Where the bed and cab meet is where the frame broke. No one was seriously injuried but the S10 injuries looked fatal. I was really impressed with the PT Cruiser, It looked like it could have been driven home. I would tell you to avoid any older S10 with the 2.8 V6 in them, lots of block problems at 60,000 miles

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

Sorry... just a bit off Triumph topic:

Actually, even though I like em I thought the flame suit was for the Miata!

Had an S-10 - 4wd - biggest v-6 they make assigned to me for ten years. I thought it was going to be awful after driving 1/2 and 3/4 ton pickups most of my life but it turned out to be a great vehicle! Be careful on slight inclines in 2wd in wet weather though because you will usually just sit there and spin the tires right after you get into the middle of on-coming traffic. Posi-rear at least kept it going straight.

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

Not that one example disproves anything, but I had a Chevy 2.8 V6 in my '89 Isuzu Trooper, and when I got rid of the car at 260,000 miles the transmission was shot but the engine still was going strong. All I did was change the plugs, wires, cap and rotor every couple of years, and never even had a problem passing emissions tests. If you don't mind the usual rear main seal oil leak (and as an LBC owner, I'm sure you never had an oil leak /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif), it was a great little engine.

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

I am staying away from the older 2.8's anyway...although I've heard alot of good....There just too old now, that last thing I need around here is another vehicle that needs constant attention to keep running. I am going for the 4.3 V6.

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

The 4.3L is a great engine IMHO, though I've heard others had some problems with them - usually in conjuction with the OAT antifreeze. After 5 years, I drained, flushed and refilled with the old-fashioned green and never had a lick of trouble until the heater core cut loose this year. My wife actually cried when we traded the truck off because she felt it was the most reliable vehicle we had ever owned.

Re: Latest Happenings at the Michelotti_TR househo

thats reassuring to hear...Thanks......I just sold the MGB LE....and I am on holidays for two weeks starting Friday night...So I hope to find a good one during my holidays.....It seams difficult to find decent ones around here that haven't been messed with
