Question for the members that are more familiar with stock late model midget seat configurations, is there any or what are the differences is the shape of seats from “say” 70-74 as to 75-79? Are the head rest shapes and style the same? Are the frames the same? I’ve only been around one 79 for a small amount of time and didn’t observe the seats as well as I should have. What are the differences?
Came across a set of seats from a Late model midget and something looked different (besides no car attached). The bottom seat shape “seemed” squarer than I thought a 70-74 would have been. But then again, I don’t know.

The space the seats fit in is not all that different throughout the years, and one SHOULD work as well as another if you are not a "purist"!!
 
Thank you for the reply Mike, I'm not so much concerned about the space or the desire of using one-year model seat in another year model. More to the interest if there is a so called "1500" seat vs. a 1275 seat so to speak. Is there a visual difference to the seat or design? That’s the nature of the question.

I can send you photographs of the 1979 seats. I have them out of the vehicle.
 
The 1500 seats were unchanged from the previous model although beige replaced autumn leaf in late '77.
 
Thank you all, I figured there must or could have been a difference due to the ever changing safety concerns of the day (additional mounting points etc) that could have had a impact on the shape but I just didn’t know. Thank you again for the replies and answers.

Hi, Dug!
From what I remember off the top of my head, the seat frames, guts, and upholstery design were the same from 1970 on. The only difference was in the headrest design; sometime in 1976 they changed from the "eared" style to a teardrop shape.
When I took the seats out of my '76 to freshen them up, they struck me as funny looking too, so it's not just you. :smile:
