Last Race For '09

I'm heading to Watkins Glen tomorrow for my last vintage race of the year with my Spridget. It's been a great year with lots of fun (and thankfully, no major problems). The leaves are wonderful this time of year and we always enjoy this event. I'm sure we'll eat at the Seneca Lodge at least one night.

This will also be the last tow for my faithful '05 Ford van. It's been great, but it's 5 years old with much of that towing to it's limit. I bought a new Chevy Express cargo van yesterday but I'm not picking it up until after I get back. We go on some pretty long runs and I don't want to have to worry about using an older tow vehicle. I've tried that in the past and it can really spoil a weekend if you're worried about the tow vehicle. If I get 5 years out of the Chevy, I'm happy.

Also, a new tow vehicle keeps The Boss happy. Whatever it takes, right? :jester:

Might also be the last race for the Spridget for at least a while. I am hoping to get the Austin A35 on the track for the Spring event at New Hampshire. But I'm keeping the Spridget and will probably campaign them both at different events.

I may co-drive in a non-vintage 4-Hour endurance event at Summit Point in mid-Nov.....but that's still up in the air.

Hey, I sent you a PM but haven't heard back from you yet. You get it?

Good luck in your last race of the season. I enjoyed watching you race at the Jefferson 500 this summer. Saw you in the pits, but you were talking with someone, so I didn't want to interrupt. Wish now that I would introduced myself to you. Have been enjoying your videos of races.

Hi Gary!

Yeah please come over and say hi next time you see me.

I'm sure you would not have interrupted.
I was probably just busy lying to someone about how fast I drive. :jester:

The Jefferson 500 is already set up for '10 and I'm sure to be there (but maybe with my A35).

Hope to meet up with you.

How many cars were left for the Sunday run? We towed up the Bug Eye and the Mini but when they cancelled Friday's track usage and Saturday's didn't look much better we hooked up the trailer and pulled out about 9 am on Friday. 13 hours up/12 hours back. Just didn't seem worth the wait for a one day event. How did it go?

We had an OK time, but it was cold in an open car.

Friday was canceled by the track manager due to snow on the racing surface.

I raced with a fair number of brave souls on Saturday, but I was frozen after each session. I had to put cardboard in front of the radiator to keep the engine even close to warm.

With only a handful of racers around on Saturday afternoon, Bob G. took a straw poll and canceled Sunday. I was fine with that and I think everyone else was too. But it's too bad. Last year, the weather was spectacular for this event. It's just one of those things you can't control.

Mark Palmer just sent out an e-mail saying they are trying to figure out how to deal with this fairly. I've been in his shoes and it's a tough call. I'm sure the club will lose a lot of money on this event and it's already been a lean year for VRG due to the economy.
