All good things have to come to an end sometime.
My '08 racing effort is over.
Now I'll spend the rest of my Fall raking leaves...and looking for the next project.
Anyway, I spent my final '08 race day (last Saturday) at the New Jersey Motorsports Park running in a NASA event.
This is the first year that the place has been open (so I guess it's the "new" New Jersey Motorsports Park).
NASA is mostly modern cars, Civics and BMW 325s are plentiful at their events.
But there was an Elise. My pal Steven was instructing in an HPDE session and he got to instruct a young guy with this Elise. As far as I could tell, the Elise was the only real Brit at this event (I didn't see any new MINIs).
Steven still prefers ~His 996~ , but the Elise really amazed him.
I'm not sure if a Cobra replica (or in this case, a Cobra Daytona Coupe replica) is considered "British". There was an evil-looking Cobra Daytona at the event.....it looked almost as if it had been "chopped".
My Escort was fine but it started to leak coolant so I called it a day. I thought it was the waterpump, but later, discoved it was a hard-to-see gasket (I fixed it at home on Sunday). Anyway, despite the problem, it was a good day hanging out with some of my racing pals. Making plans for next year as we speak......
More pictures and an IN-CAR video clip ~HERE~. (you can see me lose it and do an off-track excursion at about the 5:30 minute point)
The Park has two circuits; Lightning and Thunderbolt.
I drove Lightning during the VRG Vintage event in Sept, but this is the first time I'd been on Thunderbolt. Overall, I think I prefer the Lighting circuit, but it was partly raining on Saturday, so it's hard to judge. I'll need another go at it in '09 to really decide.
The NJMP site was originally a WW II training site for P-47 Thunderbolt pilot training, hence the name (they dug up an old napalm bomb last year during the construction!).
