So, going back to when I bought the Vauxhall last summer. Shortly after I bought it I got an email literally out of the blue asking if I was the guy had bought it. Turns out this guy (from Winnipeg) had initially planned to buy it with a friend. The friend would restore the car and he (Ed) would use some extra parts for his own GT project. (When he was young he had one, has been unable to re-locate it, does have a shell but will likely drop a V8 in it) So, he was emailing to see if I might still sell him the spare parts - front subframe/suspension and hood in particular as his subframe was missing and the GT hood has twin scoops. I had both as spares. Yes, probably says I but I want to get organized first. Well, we have been in occasional touch throughout the year and I emailed a month ago said, parts are available if he wants them. Price agreed to and we were in the process of figuring out shipping. Well, last week I get an email. His new plan is to buy an RV, the one he wants is in Bracebridge (two hours from me) could I go, check it out and if it was OK, he would wire the money to the seller, fly to Toronto, pick up RV and parts and drive all home. I couldn't get to Bracebridge but a friend lives there, he checked it out, it's all good and tomorrow Ed is dropping by to begin the aforementioned adventure. So, this afternoon was spent knocking the subframe down to manageable pieces and getting stuff organized. Got in, grabbed a shower, went out to the bank. Took Ms Triss for her first top down run of the summer. Got errands run and on the way home stopped by Howard who is restoring a 1960 Vauxhall Victor just around the corner. Very friendly guy and may well have the nicest Victor in the world when done - he bought it from the second owner who bought it from a lady with 27000 original miles - no rust ever. This the kind of story where he went back to the original owner, poked around the barn a bit and found the original wheel trim rings - never installed! Anyway, Howard has also added extras to make it look more like the 55 Chevy it resembles - twin antennas, extra chrome etc. etc. So, we are chatting and all of a sudden he give me a gift - a pair of wire headlight guards, brand new as far as I can tell. What makes them unique is that they are hinged, so that you and "open" them to clean the headlight - never seen them like that before. All in all very fun though and I love this hobby for the connections you make!
