I just landed the engine onto the new frame with new mounts. I noticed that the engine is not lying flat on the mounts. There is about a 1/16" gap at the lower end. I can stick a flat-head screwdriver into the gap. Photo attached.
So, there's an angle wrong. Question is, is it OK as is?
Frame is a Ratco and the mounts are stiffer than stock from RevingtonTR.

I seem to recall that mine had a shim in there as well....

I think the original purpose of the shims was to adjust engine height to match the dog to the radiator crank hole. Not an issue if you have eliminated that hole - though using at least one shim per mount seems like a good idea to me.

Shims are slotted so they can be inserted by just loosening the mount, raising the engine a bit and slipping in.

That'll make the wife happy. She broke a nail helping me last night!
 
The engine sets into a wedge also, so sometimes you need to shake it, so it falls, but yes shim it. Oh watch those fingers. I can show you some pictures of mine.

If those are pictures of pinched fingers - I think I'll pass.

Since the engine is wedged in there, rather than raise the whole engine a bit, it might be easier to raise one side, shim it, then do the other side.
