I've often wondered about that. (if the clerks would notice that is)
It funny how when AI always get rung up, the price it always higher than on the shelf. One ACE in particular is bad. I'd say 80% of the time it's more.

Here you have a clerk that rings stuff up all day and doesn't notice that a $100 Lego set just came in at $7.
This woman wasn't just scamming a few dollars on each item, but massive amounts. I wouldn't expect a checkout clerk to scrutinize every item, but somewhere along the way, a clerk has to notice something is not right. This lady has been doing it for years, you'd think that a bell would've gone off a long time ago.
I guess we can chalk this up to another loss of common sense due to technology.

IN fairness, I think we can also chalk this up to cashiers who, yes, trust the scanners, but also get paid minimum wage, have 15 people in line behind them, a supervisor down their back for not moving faster and the awareness that the store values said scanner more than it values them.
