Kobe Bryant gone???!!!!!

Watching the NTSB preliminary report I was struck by how dumb some reporters must be judging by their questions.

Also the NTSB person mentioned they had found what they think is the pilot's "I pad" Will they be able to get into it if it has a password that is not available to them.

I would assume an iPad could be "Hijacked" as an iPhone can. I think it would be unlikely though due to the extent of destruction of the iPad and the heat from the fire. The NTSB folks are pretty smart people, but finding why there was such a fast decent might never be known. My question would be, if they initially climbed above the cloud/fog, why go back down into it? Makes no sense. Kinda makes one wonder if a medical issue was involved.
 
So far NTSB and FlightRadar have shown altitude, track, and speed. Among many other things, we dont' know what the pilot actually *saw* outside. And just yesterday we learned the S-76B did *not* have the terrain awareness system that many other 76Bs have. (FAA doesn't make that system mandatory. That'll lead to lawsuits I'm sure.)

If the a/c was in thick fog, moving slow, pilot's orientation to ground would probably be iffy. If instruments aren't reliable at slow speeds in a chopper, and fog makes visual horizon impossible, then pilot may have had little sense of pitch/yaw/bank, etc. He could have been giving full power to climb, but he wasn't moving in the direction he thought he was moving.

One of the more stupid questions was "what was the pilot thinking"

The NTSB did mention the terrain awareness system and that they had recommended it be mandatory after another crash some years ago but the FAA did not follow their recommendation.
