Knox Custom Chrome - my grille progress

Thanks guys, I definitely see why getting the chromed stuff first is best.
Luckily my bodywork is in horrible condition now so a bit of violence to it won't show.
I like the idea of enlargening the holes, I'll use that.
 
Glad that ordeal is over.
Looking closely I have the dimples, but they are small and I only noticed because I was looking for them.
So thanks for pointing that out...

Rick, I don't think I have ever seen a greater grill. Grats. And the total cost was, send message if you wish.
 
They first quoted $275.
Then they called and asked if I wanted all the pitting fixed, it would run another $100.
So $375 back to my door.

I'm having a hard time getting some of the pegs to catch the fasteners, noticed after driving a few miles it had come loose on one side.
 
I've got a problem, the grille is beautiful of course.
Except...
It's not being held on with a lot of force, I took the warning about excessive connecting force very seriously.
It's on firm but not pulled with a lot of force.
I've driven about 100 miles since installing it.
During the time they had it they called me asking of they could do extra work to remove pitting.
I'm wondering if anything they did may have weakened the area outside / around the base of the post shown in this picture and if I should ask them if it's something they feel they should fix?

Rick, the only screws are toward the top of the grill. what if you used so non-permanent adhesive - like hot glue, or clear caulk - to hold the bottom from rattling. could be applied from the back or a dab in each alignment pin hole to be invisible but effective.

Hard to see what happened in your pic. Did one of the alignment pins push through the new chrome? If yes, they should probably fix it.

Pushed through - yes.
Seems like it was weakened there somehow.
I sent them an email and asked them to look at it.
I paid about $400 for this all told so I really hope they make it right.
The AH Spares premium grille would have cost a little less including shipping.
 
No question should not be like that, I bet they will fix.
 
They want to have Gary look at it on Monday, Kathy commented about the thinness of the metal.
I felt I was paying a lot more than normal so I should have received some sort of extra goodness, or at least some comment about how thin the metal was before they went ahead.
Don't get me wrong, I believe they did an excellent job with the plating - it's beautiful.
Hopefully Gary will look at it and not think I just carelessly broke it and now I want them to fix it for free.

If you need a grill, I have one that is rusty that you can have if they need something with a little more metal.

After looking at my pictures for a few days they said I must have damaged it by over-tightening.
:(
 
Here's the actual reply:
"I just showed Gary your two pics and he's not sure why you're having a problem.
He's thinking that you may have tightened the posts too tight.
Without being able to physically see the car & grille, he said it's hard to say based on the pics."
 
Use Miss Agathas washer and a plastic tube the right size from ACE. At least you will know it will not fall off.
