Knock-Off Hammer

Are you sure you aren't over tightening your knockoffs just a little bit? Or maybe that hammer gets used for purposes other than just whacking knock-offs....like assembling IKEA furniture or cracking open macadamia nuts?
 
Well, that wasn't from one tightening. That's the result of many years of use.

Now that I've driven the car something like 75-100 miles since those new tires were installed, I'll give the knock-offs a little more encouragement to stay put. Then they should be good for the duration.

By the way, in my lifetime of driving cars with spline-drive wheels, I've had two come off while driving. Fortunately neither incident was at enough speed to result in serious damage (one destroyed a fender, but that's all), but I have never had a problem with wheels being tightened too much.
 
A sailor on our boat (in Pearl Harbor) had the Base Auto Shop do his brakes on his Triumph. After they were done, he drove back to the pier and one front wheel came off and rolled into the water. The shop had reversed the hubs.

Towing the car backwards would have the same effect; DON'T tow a car with spline/pin-drive wheels backwards.
