Any of you tech savvy computer guys know anything about a Kindle? My wifes kindle stopped opening up and only shows a black screen with the logo Kindle Fire on it. I've done the cold boot procedure a dozen times to no prevail. If there is a way to access it from a computer to get the photos out of it, that would be enough. My computer doesn't recognize it as another drive. Any software I can get to solve this problem? Anyone? PJ
 
Just googled it and plugging it in to the power cord seems to sometimes spark it back to life.
 
Tried that many times JP but to no prevail. My granddaughters husband is a computer wiz who does computer security work for a large company on the East coast and is supposed to call me this morning. Hopefully he can access our system and see if he can fix the problem, I think her Kindle has a virus and won't let it fully boot up, we'll see. Thanks for getting back. PJ
 
Tom, I've tried everything that is recommended to do multiple times and get zero results. I contacted an Amazon recommended site, had them go through my computer hooked up to the Kindle and they said it had over 7000 corrupt files! How do you get that many corrupt files when it is/was used only to communicate with my granddaughter and send and receive photos of our baby great granddaughter, plus they email back and forth. The site I contacted, by recommendation from Amazon, which sounds like it's in India, if you get the drift, said they can remove all the bad files but for a $300.00 fee by selling us a security program which is only good for one year! A lifetime license is $400.00! Sounds like a scam to me. All I want to do is find a program that will let me access it to retrieve the photos, which are irreplaceable, then I'll trash the Kindle. Never buy another one, their service is basically non existent. PJ

Paul - what did you hear from your granddaughter's husband yesterday?

(I agree on the possible scam from the "we'll fix it" guys.) Did you mention the corrupt files to your granddaughter's husband? You might want to show him this how-to on recovering from corrupt files on a Kindle:

Another lesson learned. Never put "irreplaceable" things only on digital devices.

There is a website called bleepingcomputer.com that I have gone to more than once - it's a forum and they are very helpful - not sure about Kindles but worth a look. No charge thugh occasionally a tip is suggested.

No Tom, Were sending it to our granddaughters husband, who knows nothing about Kindles but he will take it to work where they have the best equipment and knowledgeable people to correct situations like this. The fella is a genius in security problems in computers and computers in general, who was just promoted to supervisor over a group of people. I think he really wants to do this, as it's another avenue to pursue in the development of computer security software. Kindles are everywhere and more than likely highly susceptible to viruses. Probably take a while, but I'll get back on this when he gets back to me. PJ
