TR4/4A kinda nice 66' TR4a

Nice color.

The Periwinkle Blue w/Tan Leather interior is a turn off for me. Valve cover to match... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cryin.gif

I guess putting in the 6 cylinder engine in a TR4 to make a TR250 clone is the LBC equivalent of the Hemi clones.

I like the color combo..........
It's different /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

But at least the seller is up-front about it, by clearly stating the commission number, etc. That's probably more than the Hemi-clone creaters are wont to do.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hammer.gif

But still a nice clone, cleanly done. I personally don't love the color combo, maybe the lighting throws it off. Sure beats the tufted red velour interior someone had on ebay recently.

I would treat a TR5/250 clone the same way I would treat a Hemi-Cuda clone or any other clone...

Drive the snot out of it with a big ol' smile plastered all over my face. You don't have to worry about 'de-valuing' a clone. You might as well enjoy the ownership.

Heck, come to think of it, I already do that with my non-cloned cars. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

I like the color, but I'm not completely convinced it was that clean a swap. Is the battery tray that narrow normally?

No it's not. The accelerator cross-shaft has been moved back a few inches to clear the backside of the engine as well. Wonder what they did with the pedal?

Also... what does "idles like a hog in heat" mean? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Hi Folks:

Just thought I would add My Thoughts: It`s not a Bad Looking TR4 (Not My Colors) but Obviously the Owner had spent some Dollars on work Performed: If that were Me & I was going to dump Big Bucks into Her; I surely would`nt put a TR6 Engine into the Bay as It simply "De-Values" the Car: What`s It up to now anyway? Somewhere around $7000.00? I guess Whatever Turns You on!! Who Inquired relative to What the Reserve Is? That would be Interesting!!

Regards;

Russ

Its not to bad a car,but i must say,he spent more time cutting up the baulkhead and moving the shift lever than if he would have just cut the wheel well and pieced in a TR6 wheel well.
He also used an early TR6 engine, I would have gone with the latter engine and brought up the power.

The identification on the trunk still says TR4. This tells me he was not attempting to create a clone. If he changed the grill, the exterior trim and the badging he would be "guilty" of creating a clone. My guess it he wanted more power, or the original engine was shot and he found a good deal on a functional TR6 engine.
looking at the corner of the trunk lid it appears to be repaired. The radius doesn't look right. I'd be more concerned what's under the paint than what's under the hood.

I dont think he is trying to sell a TR250 knock off, he is just selling a TR4 with a TR6 engine. As for what its worth ............... well, thats up to who ever on E bay is bidding on it.
Actually, all TR250's are clones of TR5's are they not?

As an ex TR5 owner back in the 70's, I have to disagree with you on that.

Moving the engine a bit to the rear probably helps the handling a bit, taking some weight off the nose. I always thought the 4 was a better handling car than the 6 anyway.

Not really, TR250's are North American TR5's. We didn't get the Petrol Injection, increased compression and different camshaft. Which is why you might often see it termed TR5/250.

Same as with the TR6 (no Petrol Injection and extras) but with the TR6 they didn't give an alternate exterior designation.

The later head would breath better but the early cars had higher compression from the factory. So it would depend on the extent of the rebuild. The late engine would have been a tougher fit with the longer intake manifold used on the later heads since the inner wing doesn't have the 'indent'.

TR5's were the continuation of the TR line, the engine was designed for the PI induction system and as you correctly stated had increased compression and a more radical camshaft, totally different distributor. TR250's on the other hand were a downgraded "copy" of a TR5 to appease pollution and mileage concerns in the north american market.
Thats a clone to me.
