1965 Austin Mini Cooper S, modified as "Mini Sprint" replica

This genuine 1275cc Cooper S has been modified in the same fashion as the legendary "Mini Sprint" models, including about 4" of roof chop and a fully deseamed body, including the roof gutters. Still has its genuine S motor, twin SU carbs and oil cooler, along with the 7.5" S disc brakes and twin fuel tanks. Not only does it fly, but it's a real attention-getter.

This one is left-hand drive (LHD). Performance and handling upgrades include aluminum finned rear brake drums for better braking, a set of
"stick-to-the-road" Yokohama A008 165-series 10" tires, and a conversion to dry suspension. Aftermarket exhaust has a healthy note,
but isn't too loud. The mirror-black paint looks very nice, but it isn't flawless. If you get really close in, you might find some minor
cracks and blemishes. (No biggie, since when you are driving it all anyone will see is a black blur!)

The floors, "A" panels, doors and subframes appear solid. There's some rust in the rear valance (below the rear bumper), but that's a
readily-available, easily-replaceable panel. Exterior mods include a roof-mount aerial, later-model taillights, and small black flares. Interior mods include an aftermarket Motolita sport steering wheel, a custom dash with all Smiths gauges, and deep, sport-type seats. Under
the bonnet are low-restriction air filters. Comes with two sets of 10" alloys, including Revolutions and Cosmics.

Ouch! No head room! I have a book with a picture of a Mini that has an even more extreme chop-top (I'm wondering when the tuner crowd will get into doing this with Hondas). I remember this "fad" from the '50s....I guess what comes around, goes around (or maybe, hotrodding is actully a world-wide phenomenon).

I'm the opposite...I need headroom, like in this Mini:

Note: the New MINI will be available in a drop-top in late '04

Weird.

Seeing as I posted the first message in this thread... What is a Mini Sprint? I did a google search and came up with a whole bunch of hits for mini sprint racing (with a couple of actual Mini hits), all I found out was that they were built in the 1960's.

That's a neat website XRacer,

There are a number of interesting Mini variants in Ontario.

- the Mini shorty on that website is a common conversion to a "clown" car

- there are two Mini cement mixers up here (yes...) I've seen one of them, built on a written of 1962/63 Morris Mini way back in the 1960's with dual axles on the back, a nice looking truck and I'm told everything works

- a Mini eighteen-wheeler replica with it's own little trailer to tow behind, have only seen pictures of this one, don't know if it can actually tow the trailer or it it's just for display.

- a Mini tow truck, I only know that the guy joined our club, have never seen it (I do have pictures from Alberta of a 1977 Honda Civic tow truck though...)

Years ago Road & Track did a small two page photo essay featuring weird Mini conversions (November 1964, pages 68 & 69), as I recall there were seven or eight pictures with the majority of the pictures being Ontario vehicles (including that Mini cement mixer I mentioned above, the one I've seen)
