Anybody else watching the special on killer ants in Africa - on Discovery Channel?

After watching alabama beat Arkansas, I flipped over to the discovery Channel & am catching a show on "Siafu" - killer ants....WOW!! They attack humans even.

I saw that giant killer ant movie when I was a kid.
Saw the giant killer praying mantis movie too.
And the giant killer spider movie as well
Saw the giant killer squid movie too.

Ah, and who can ever forgot the classic-

"I married a monster from outer space"?

More like squeeeeeeek by wasn't it....sometimes luck goes one way, sometimes the other......Just wasn't our night.

And here I thought this thread was going to be about the dreaded Southern Fire Ant!! They killed a cow over in North Fort Meyers two or three years ago!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

Mike-

I know those southern critters on sight. Many
bad experiences with them "bite you to death" buggers.

Some fool stateside contractor from Georgia shipped
over some wood chip based product to one of my projects
two years ago.

Installed it and real quickly the local workers avoided
an area of the their work. Would not go near it.

I asked why- they said fire ants. Big deal we have fire
ants, so I walked over to investigate. Those SOBs crawled
up my sock fast as can be an bit the pi$$ outta me.
They were southern fire ants.

I ran back and reported an infestation of foreign ants.
Georgia fire ants are nothing you want to be near>

Tony...missed it I was too busy watching KILLER TROJANS attacking our CORNHUSKERS...the good thing is your show Killer Ants will be re-shown....we hope the USC/HUSKER game wasn't even taped...

Fire ants move into our garden a couple of years back. I reached down to pick a squash and they swarmed up my arm biting me several times before I even realized they were there. Needless to say, I don't ever garden in sandals anymore.

Luck, umps on Alabama's side, bad calls, good kids on the field, Arkansas' best player out of game at end.

I'm still on the fence about Saban - everybody else in AL is ga-ga over the guy....I'm not sure yet & I think several of his calls y'day will start people thinking!

come on now wasn't "The day of the Triffids" as good

My husband is ga-ga over Saban....we'll see. I hope he gets the chance to build something there. DMac was reported to have a concussion towards the end of the game...you gotta love a coach who refuses to put him back on the field even though he's begging to go....There's always next year!

Arkansas always comes to play football - & its always a great game...I hate I was flying & didn't have time to drive down so had to watch it on TV.

I can't help but think of the old Mother-in-Law joke whenever that movie (or book) is mentioned. You know the one - Say it with flowers, send her a Triffid.

& I think I'm the only person in Alabama who remembers Saban & Louisiana....I say he'll walk in 4 to 5 years when the money's bigger!

The really insidious thing about those Southern fire ants is that they will not start biting until a good number of them have crawled onto you first, and then they co-ordinate their attack and start biting all at once!!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/eek.gif

I was at FT. Benning, a dumb kid from PA, doing sit ups and when I went down they got on the back of my neck, the second time down more and then they bit.

MY Boston Terrier hated them and would dig them up every time he found them and get all bit up. Nasty little creatures. I say we send them to the middle east...

Reminded me of an old Charlton Heston movie 'the naked jungle" brazilian plantation owner trying to save his land from army ants. Based on a true story fron the 1930's
