Kidney panel brace

Hello Everyone,
I am finally getting around to repairing and putting in my kidney panels. I can see where they attach to the console with the large brackets. I can not see where they attach near the firewall end. I happened to see a NOS kiney panel brace on Ebay and bought it (I probably should not have bought it until I knew what it does), but I can not see how that installs either. Can someone give some guidence on how these are installed?
Thanks, Kevin

There should be a speed nut on each end of the brace. A screw runs through the panel into the nut.
Riveted to the transmission tunnel near the firewall are two speed nutted brackets, one on each side. Again, screws run through the panels into the speed nuts.
The only reference picture I have found is in the Moss catalog showing the screw hole in the panel nearest the firewall.
I just found a picture of what you are looking for in TRF's green TR6 catalog on page 419.

Or, you can go like I did, which it totally resto-mod. I drilled through the forward leading edge of both panels (actually, rearward leading edge, meaning the edge you see) in two place each and into the cast aluminum center brace. I then taped the brace with threads so I now have four stainless screws with upholstery washers holding my kidney panels in place. Advantage - you never have them fall off now, they stay in place and are easily removed. Disadvantage - you have to look at 4 shiny screws heads that shouldn't be there for the concours crowd.

Bil
can you post a pic of your installation?
Regards
Craig

I agree with Bill

Theres nothing worst than taking a corner and having a kidney pad end up at your feet, just a few well placed screws will do it.

Screw it in place, screw the concours boyz. It's all about practical use, I.E: DRIVING the cars.

...I've put th' Nomex suit on. Flame away.
