I have to most strongly disagree with you.

My boat costs my under $10 per hour including
insurance, professional maintenance, fuel, etc.

To date during the past two years ownership,
my "fully restored" TR6 has cost me over $5,000.
per hour of drive time.

I have never owned such a bottomless money pit as
the TR6.

I won't argue with that. Then again that figure doesn't include a motor or powerhead.

I can't directly speak to a TR6, never owned one. I don't reckon you meant $5k/hr of drive time.
 
Yup Wray,

The # is closer to $7K per hour of drive time but
I was embarrassed to post it.

And that's for a totally stock, nothing fancy
69TR6, just to get it to move under it's own power.
I've not had to perform any engine work-yet.

What probably should have been parts car that was scammed as a 100% restored classic bought by a wife and given to a guy that really likes the car and lives in Puerto Rico where everything costs twice what we in the States pay.

Dale is simply stating what he has paid to acquire the car and get it back on the road. Lots of money, little drive time. We are pulling for him to soon drop a couple zeros off that cost per hour.

Then, using that viewpoint:
His custom-built boat probably costs him also somewhere around $7,000 per hour to operate! Even after a few years of operation! What does one of those rigs cost anyway?

I kinda think he was making a little joke there, eh? hehehe
 
NO>>NO>>NO let's not go there...any hobby any sport unless you're lucky enough to get paid to do it...Tinster..figure out what one of those tarpons cost you...we used to joke in the duck blind about our $500 mallards...
 
Well, having owned several boats from small ski boats to a 27'Hunter to a 33' Trojan, I can tell you - British car ownership is WAY cheaper!

A boat is a hole in the water into which you throw money!

Two best days in the life of a boat owner: day he buys his boat & day he sells it!

Having visited Dale personally, I can attest to everything he says as unexaggerated fact.
His TR6 (Aka the Crypt car) has been a bottomless pit of expenses broken only by extremely short periods of drive time.
Considering purchase price, and repairs up to date/ verses the handful of miles drivin so far, I could easily believe the 7K mer mile figure.
Hopefully this will turn around now, as he has replaced most major components, and is now gaining a good working knowlege of the car, and the car is steadily becoming more reliable.
On the other hand, his boat is a finely oiled machine. being relativly new, and properly maintained since day one, it is mainly trouble free. and givin his location it gets used more than once a week, year round! so it really does cost very little/ per hour.
We can only hope that someday the TR6 gets below the cost of the boat due to extended periods of trouble free driving.

We are both familiar with the cost of Amos.
I'm sure we are very close to having a major turn around in the cost of driving this car. Besides, this gives you and I a decent vacation spot and a little fun on a TR6.
Dale just needs to spend some time driving this car and not having to spend money to start believing in Amos.
I'm sure that sooner or later the car will be cheaper to run than the boat.
But you know, that boat is fun.

because he had to pay with his sweat for my guided
tour of San Juan bay aboard Tres Gatos-

To paraphrase-

My custom 19' tarpon boat is truly a finely oiled machine,
only 8 months since completion and given proper routine and
preventive maintenance since day one. I keep it 3 miles from
home and it gets used more than once a week, year round!
So yup! It really does cost me very little/ per hour.

I have less than 5 hours drive time in the TR since my wife
purchased it almost two years ago. The repairs to date, have
cost more than the purchase price of my boat.
