OK so I noticed an odd thing about my TR6 the other day. I turned it off but it was still running until......I turn the head lights off. I am new to the British car experince, is this "normal"?

Colin

No, it's not normal. You have yourself a unique problem in that most problems here are lights not going on or cars not starting or running right. At least you have both of those problems licked! You must have a wiring problem where the light switch is connected to the ignition run circuit. check for incorrect wiring or wires melted to each other causing a short between those 2 circuits and isolate.

I had a problem with the headlight switch and the starting system (I would turn the headlights on and the starter motor would engage), it turned out to be a ground fault. With my problem it turned out that the ground wire connection that is located near the battery was broken. Check the ground connection that is part of the wiring harness that comes through the firewall near the battery it has one wire that is grounded to the body - check that it is ok.

Colin: I have just completed a 100%
rewire of my 69ish TR6. A Dan Master
Power Block wire harness with on-site
help from Dan's son Mike. All new lights,
switches, etc.

Some problems still came and went at random. Dan
told me my TR originally had a strong ground wire
from the engine block to the body metal shell at the
firewall.

My firewall is bondo and fiberglass so today I ran a
No. 8 wire from the negative battery cable/block
connection to a spot on the wheel arch I stripped down
to white metal. Used a lock washer to grind the connection
into the sheet metal after I coated everything with that
dielectic muck.

That heavy ground wire seems to cleared thing up
in a hurry. Photo attached.

Hope this helps ya.
