Kennedy to undergo surgery

Just read that Senator Kennedy is to undergo serious brain surgery

I'm not posting this to start any sort of political discussion (so please don't). This is just FYI.

Regardless of what your politics are, keep him in your thoughts and (if you are so inclined) your prayers. This is a deadly serious condition he has been stricken with and goodwill should transcend politics.

All politics aside, you have to wonder what cosmic or universal law would have so much misfortune befall one family. And here is yet one more trial... :frown:

I hope this comment offends no one.

My mom died of a glioma, one week after the diagnosis,
at age 65. It was a mercy compared to what she had to look
forward had her death not been so swift.

Sen. Kennedy has spent his life in government service.
I wish him and his family an easy/fast death from this
hateful 100% fatal glioma brain cancer.

edit: thanks for the delete

Many families face similar challenges - they just are not in the public eye.

And folks, I am serious about no politics in this thread. Regardless whether we like the guy, love the guy, or hate the guy, he is still a human being and I'd not wish this fate on anyone. If you have the urge to make any negative comments, resist them please and just pray for the man and his family. I'd feel this way regardless of which politician was facing this terrible ordeal. Period.

Regardless of his politics, I agree we're all behind him & the team of doctors at Duke as he undergoes this terrible surgery & the recuperation time afterwards....& his family also.

Senator Edward Kennedy underwent surgery to remove at least part of his incurable brain tumor so that follow-up chemotherapy and radiation treatments have a better chance of working.

Kennedy, a 76-year-old had the malignant tumor, found last month, cut out by surgeons at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. The 3 1/2- hour surgery today was successful and ``is just the first step in Senator Kennedy's treatment plan,'' the senator's surgeon, Allen Friedman, said in a statement. This type of tumor ``is not a cancer you can cure by surgery.

More than 21,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with malignant tumors in the brain or spinal cord this year, and 13,000 will die from the disease, according to the American Cancer Society.

Why the Deletion?

Steve

Underastand it went 3-1/2 hours & that's he's doing well...he was apparently awake through the entire procedure....good to hear...you hate it when anybody has health issues!

No 76 year old wants to go under for 3-7 hours for an operation. Heck, I wouldn't want to do it at my age, especially for something as sinister as that disease.

Our thoughts and prayers, as well as nearly everyone that I know here in New England are with him. Yes, even those who disagree with him politically, yet still recognize his worth and value as a human being are feeling the same.
