This is our 18+ year old kitty, Devon. We got him from a shelter when he was a kitten. Devon stopped grooming himself some time ago and our attempts to groom him have been met with limited success. So, we've decided to just let him be. Otherwise, he's in good health, has a good appetite and still gets around pretty well.

However, because of his appearance - he looks like he should be dead; therefore, we have taken to calling him Keith Richards.

Makes you wonder if he just woke up one morning & just thought "oh forget it...to much trouble ".

i bet if Devon was a girl he wouldn't have let himself go like that!

We adopted our cat almost 13 years ago. At the time, the shelter estimated his age at about 5 or 6 so he is close in age to your cat. Age has finally started catching up with our old man. He doesn't jump up on things unless he has to. The vet says his arthritis is to blame. Otherwise, he's doing great. May your cat only suffer from lack of grooming and continue to live a long and happy life.

Our Devon used to jump up on the dryer (via the sink next to it) because he liked laying on the warm top surface. He stopped doing that about a year ago. Now he spends most of his time sleeping on the couch. He still is "regular" and has a good appetite, so I guess he's been lucky in that he's not had any real health problems his entire life.

my first best friend changed her behavior when she got old.
she was a natural born "ratter", but at 16 or 17 when she could no longer see well, she became a "box turtler". She would bring them to the back door and wag her tail like a pup.
she never hurt the box turtles.....she had no teeth by then.

Devon certainly looks better than Dennis did. People would come to the door telling us we had a dead cat out front. We would say "No, he just looks dead." After they would insist he was dead, we would go out and call his name. They were so surprised when he lifted his head to look at us!
