Keeping my top on

Never been able to put the top up on our 1960 BN7 because the soft top latches (that connect to the pegs on the windshield pillars) are missing the hooks. Any idea where I can track down a set of just the hooks? Is this something that might be sitting in someones stock somewhere? Any leads would be appreciated.

If you get no luck near home, you can try AH Spares or SC parts in the UK they have them and they are on the web, AH spares have a catalogue you can browse, SC Parts also have one but you have to register with them first. Best of luck

If you get desperate, you can fashion them out of bolts, 3/16-inch, I recall. Get some 3 or 4 inches long with matching nuts, bend a hook and cut the head off. Some experimentation to get the right length is required, but originals do allow for some adjustment. They are very hard to find.

I think British Car Specialists stocks new ones. Of course you have to buy the whole latch, not just the hook. However, I don't think they were all that expensive. I had mine rechromed (the hooks) along with the rest of the part. They turned out real nice. You have to dissassemble by removing the pins first. Just a thought. If you have to mfg your own others have used brass rod. Easier to thread and looks great when polished. The nuts used are called "jam nuts" and are available either chromed or in stainless, different in that they are smaller more like the originals.
