Kate Smith sang a "command performance" for the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, when they visited FDR at Springwood in 1939. FDR introduced her: "Your majesties, this is Kate Smith. Kate Smith is America."
We all remember her "God Bless America" - but I remember her singing the theme of her TV show: "When the Moon Comes Over the Mountain - every beam, brings a dream dear, of you." (wow - surprised I remember that!)
