K&N Air Cleaners

My car is equipped with a set of K&N air filters. Problem.. the front filter only clears the hood by 1mm. I saw the white bugeye photo on the web with the same filters upside down. I did this, but soon realized, upside down covers the vacuum port. My idle was rough and would spit and sputter at 65mph. Has anyone here changed the K&N’s upside down and maybe drilled a new vacuum port in the cleaner backing plate?

You have them upside down, as the white Sprite photo? Did you drill a new hold for the vacuum port?

I have mine upside down and drilled holes for the vacuum ports. Seem to work fine.

GREAT! That
’s what I’ll do.

I also put an UP arrow inside the filter housing to remind me or anyone working on the carbs on how they should be mounted.
