Just to confirm and of course a question

Tomorrow engine should be (mostly) together.

Just to confirm

1. Short threads down on studs

2. Stud not torqued in, not sealed in - just tightened as far as they will go.

3. No sealer on head/ exhaust/ gaskets

and question

When the car came back from the engine shop - these two split pins were in the bag. I presume they are the guide pins for the intake manifold - any ideas? (they are 3/4 inch long)

They look like the manifold guide pins to me.

And I will confirm 1-3.

No clue on the pins.

Pins appear to be the nifty li'l guide pins.

I do #2 ~differently~. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

tell me Obi wan

Nope. I'd get yelled at (again).

...it involves a drop of Loctite 271, tho...

<ducks and runs for th' door>

Ahh, when you say #2 tightened, that's finger tight not quite bottomed and yes a bit of locktight, the blue stuff would be nice although the red would work there as well.

According to ARP, if you Loctite, do it just before torquing the head, otherwise you will just "break the seal."

ARP suggests not using Loctite. But they have a picture of Gravedigger on their box, so I don't know if I trust them.

Ah yes, I remember that conversation now - don't worry, since I asked the question, I'll hold the door shut while you drive like the wind /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

Just one least confirmation, thrust bearing alignment. steel to engine block - copper (brass?) to crank right?

That sounds right but I thought it was kind of a bearing material to the crank.

<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:]steel to engine block - copper (brass?) to crank right?[/QUOTE]

yep.

And the insurance for the stud installation, is use a drop or two of "wicking" green loctite on the stud to block after you've installed them, before you put on the head.

GREEN?!?!

Even ~I~ blanch at THAT.
