Spotted a vintage brake lathe on the local CL. I went over earlier and was able to pick it up for $60!!!!
It will only do drums, but seems to be complete, and it works. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them.
It works backwards from any lathe I've ever used. The drum mounts solid, and the cutting bar spins around! Had a nice vintage Black and Decker 1 horse electric motor.

Still no pics... I know, What good am I? Anyway, an update. I ran acros a guy on an Antique Ford forum that had the manual in PDF! The bad news is after he sent it to me, I realised how much is missing. I guess you gotta say it's still doing pretty good for a shop tool built in the late 40s. So if anyone runs across parts for an old Barret brake drum lathe for cheap, I'd be interested. in the meantime, I got a smokin deal on a much newer Snap-on lathe that needs some repair, but is complete with all it's adapters. Now the task is to get this one up and running, then start making some money with it.
